I called at 9am because my cat had dental surgery 14 days ago. Since then he has not been eating a lot and slowly been losing weight. I was told by doctor Thibeau to give him a trio of drugs and if his appetite doesn't increase I may need to bring him in to get fluids. His appetite slowly returned but he got very bad watery diarrhea. I called the cat hospital at 9am to speak with a vet and request a possible appointment that day for fluids. I didn't get a response so called back at 3pm. I was told that Dr Murphy left for the day and would answer my question tomorrow. I am upset that I would not have received a response if I didn't call. I was trusting that the cat hospital would take my cats health seriously. I have been a customer for years but am now looking for a veterinarian who is not too busy to take care of my cat. I do have to note that Dr. Thibeau and the staff are excellent.
Every person I encountered was wonderful. The vibes were very cat-friendly. The receptionists were very kind, and I loved the nurse, tech, and Dr. Murphy. You can tell they know how to work with cats! However, just know it's a long wait. I will continue to go back because of the lovely service, but it's best to be prepared for the wait.
Updating my review in Sep 2026 - Dr. Thibeau is the BEST! I recently moved to Costa Rica and my cat was having some health issues. As a previous client, she was able to video conference with me and give me valuable advice. I decided to bring my cat back to the US for future in-depth testing, and Dr. T was the best through the whole process. You can tell she (and everyone else there) really understand how to work with cats.
The staff here is mostly incredible. I’ve been going here three years, I’ve brought four different cats over the years, and the staff and vets have been absolutely wonderful.
Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience today that has left a really bad taste in my mouth. Last week, I was out of town on business and one of my cats was distressed because he had received the wrong dose of insulin because my son misread the instructions I left him.
The next morning, when he saw my cat was dying, he immediately brought the cat over to the hospital, and Dr. Murphy took wonderful care of him and brought him back from the edge of death. Again, the medical staff here is absolutely AMAZING. I’ve also had wonderful experiences with Dr. Thibault and my favorite, Dr. Alexis Allen. ☺️
I returned from my business trip, and I had a follow up appointment today - that Dr. murphy wanted - to check my cat to see if his blood glucose level is OK. I owed over $1000 because of the visit last week when I was on my business trip. This appointment was scheduled by them, so I brought him there today… while I was sitting there waiting to see the doctor, one of the staff (I don’t know if she was a vet tech or just a business person) came out and whispered to me “I just wanted to make sure you knew about your bill… It’s about $1600”. I said “OK, I can’t pay it today because the business trip that I took has completely drained me and I’m overdrawn right now because of a double charge from one of the airlines.”
She looked funny, and said “I’ll see what the doctor says.” It’s never been a problem before, I ALWAYS pay my debts, and this was just a follow up visit. That was kind of urgent because I had no idea how my cat was actually doing.
The same woman came out about 10 minutes later, and said in a very low voice “the doctor says she can’t see your cat, but she will come out and talk to you if you want.” WOW. WOW…
The Cat Hospital of Metairie, which I’ve been going to for years, actually refused service to me and my cat today. They REFUSED to do the follow-up visit THEY wanted, because I couldn’t pay the bill in full today.
There was “someone from corporate” at the clinic today, and I had a feeling that might be what the problem was. But what if my cat has a problem that I am not detecting? They would let him die because I can’t pay until Friday? Four days is really that important??
I’m not switching clinics, but I will never forget this. It really surprised me that Dr. Murphy said that, but I have seen her before and she really is wonderful… And she did save my cat last week… but I have a feeling she was pressured in saying that by somebody else.
This sort of treatment is going to lose them customers and ruin their reputation. The person had to deliver all this bad news to me didn’t look happy about having to tell me this, but wasn’t very sympathetic with my case either.
The people here have been amazing to me in the past, and that’s why I’m giving them four stars instead of one. I love the staff. But I’m so livid about what happened today, I’m going to tell them every time that I go how unhappy I am about what they did to me and my cat today.
I will find out who is ultimately responsible for this decision and lodge as many complaints as I possibly can. Because this “corporate” is going to ruin a wonderful, wonderful clinic that is devoted solely to cats. This is how you chase customers away. I have always paid my bills in full, I was unemployed for one year and I just started working last month. No sympathy. No effort to help unless I paid. Again, I’m not going to forget this. I really don’t think it’s the doctors, I don’t think it’s any of the great vet techs or the wonderful people at the front desk. There’s some bean counter behind the scenes who has decided that they have to play hardball now. If they want to stay in business, they will give that crap up and go back to being humane instead of worried about the almighty dollar.
I will never forget that they refused me and my cat service. Never.
Well, on the spot I took the chance to bring in Shy Girl for nail clipping. I can't do it since she's still feral in many ways. I got her in the carrier so easily that it was worth bringing her in though nothing was guaranteed.
At the Cat Hospital of Metairie I brought her in and they fit the clipping in and I picked her up after work. So I'm thankful.
They treated my baby with great care, but referred her to the hospital, unfortunately my baby died the same day.
